Half Dome, Sunlight On Merced River By Ansel Adams

Posted on August 2, 2023 | No Comments

ANSEL ADAMS
Half Dome, Sunlight on Merced River, Yosemite National Park. 1935
19 3/8″ x 15 1/4″ Rare vintage gelatin silver print
On early warm-toned matte paper and a single ply mount
Signed in pencil on lower right of mount recto

This fine and velvety print is undoubtedly one of the first 16″ x 20″ photographs ever made by Adams. The Center for Creative Photography which houses the Ansel Adams photographic archive has an unsigned 8″ x 10″ print of this image.

The scene prominently features Yosemite’s Half Dome peak between parting trees, as summer light reflects on a flowing Merced River.
