GEORGE TICE
Artie Van Blarcum. 1977
7″ x 9 1/2″ Vintage signed gelatin silver print

A true portrait of steadfast and sentimental family values, Artie Van Blarcum is a photograph and also an extended portrait in book form, published by George A. Tice in 1977. Artie works in the family business, lives in the family house, and vacations in the same summer bungalow his parents rented for years. Once a family of seven, at the time of this photo project, he and his brother lived out their daily routines as bachelor roommates in Bloomfield, New Jersey, with their pet dog and cat.

Out of all the interesting people I know, I’m the least interesting.
Why would anyone want to do a book about me?

— Artie Van Blarcum

There’s only one Artie Van Blarcum, but I also discovered there’s a bit of Artie in all of us.
— George A. Tice
